
Metal materials means those materials consisted of metal element or mainly consisted of metal elements that have metallic properties. A metal material includes pure metals, alloys, intermetallic compounds and special metal materials. The development of human civilization and social progress is very closely related with the metal material. Stone Age and followed the Bronze Age, Iron Age, all are characterized with the application of metallic materials. Modern, wide range of metallic materials has become an important material foundation of the development of human society.
Metal is usually divided intoferrous metals,nonferrous metals andadvanced metal materials.
As known as iron and steel materials, ferrous metals, including pure iron (iron-containing more than 90%), the cast iron (carbon content of 2% to 4%), the carbon steel (carbon content of less than 2%), as well as various structural steel, stainless steel, hot-resistant steel, high temperature alloy, precision alloy. Broad ferrous metals include chromium, manganese and its alloys also.
